As a child, I identified myself as African American and when I became a teenager, I embraced the black Caribbean culture. I grew up in the 80s so Hispanics weren’t really present here in Danbury, not like today. As I got older and expanded my circle, I began to check the Hispanic box added to surveys. Why not? People would always say, “You got that good hair, whatever that is.” No one ever made any negative comments, at least not to my face."
My favorite physical feature about myself are my muscular legs that make me, ME! You know, I have always admired Diana Ross because we looked similar and she had really long, big hair like me. Although, my mom would always remind me her hair wasn't natural and mine was. I would encourage young children to remember WE ARE: ALL HUMAN!
